Initial Assessment

We welcome potential new swimmers to one of our trial sessions which are normally held on every weekday at the Al Sadd Sports Club Aquatic Centre unless otherwise communicated. After receipt of the online registration, a representative of Doha Dolphins will call the applicant to make an appointment for an assessment.

The initial assessment will be carried out by one of the Clubs fully qualified teachers / coaches. The assessment will consider the following:

  • Age
  • Confidence in the water
  • Ability to perform all strokes

Following the assessment the teacher / coach decides to which group or squad the swimmer will be allocated. The coach will then inform the Club office.

The following are required to conduct an assessment and to enroll in the programme:

  • Swimsuit (no surf shorts and no frills on swimming costumes)
  • Towel
  • Goggles
  • Due fees for the assessment (25 QR per child), membership fee (295 QR) and programme fee

Communication with swimmers and parents

The club believes communication with swimmers and parents is important. We regularly update our website www.qmotion.qa.com and place notices on our Notice Boards at the Pool. The first port of call should be the Website and this should be referred to regularly for details of changes to training, upcoming galas etc. Parents are encouraged to talk to the Management if they have any concerns or questions.

Parental involvement

We rely on volunteers to meet the Club’s aim. We work to ensure that we always have a sufficient number of qualified volunteers working within the Club.

What do we do?

  • There are many different roles within the Club:
  • Team managing at galas and swim camps
  • Officials - timekeepers, judges, referees, stewards
  • Helping run our Galas – on the door, raffle/tombola, announcing, etc.
  • If you would like to know more about the jobs then you can contact our office, or any other member of the Coaching Team, who will arrange to discuss the post or volunteering opportunity with you in detail.

Q & A

WHY might Swimmers be playing Games instead of swimming widths/lengths ?

  • To learn how to swim, pupils need to master skills that will help them float, breathe and move around in the water
  • Through games, swimmers have FUN and learn important skills. If swimmers are having FUN they enjoy what they are doing and often learn faster
  • The Club has a multi skills approach so all the skills that are learnt lead to development of a competent and confident swimmer, who is safe and happy in the water.

HOW long will it take for my child to pass through each Learn to Swim Group?

  • This will vary with every child.
  • If a child has the experience of pre-school or adult and child sessions then he/she may move faster initially through the different groups as they will be familiar with the environment and possibly confident in the water.
  • The amount of times a child comes in the week will also have an effect on the time a child will progress. The Club strongly encourages swimmers to come twice a week as a minimum.
